Pennant Champions for 2015

The 2015 pennant season is over with the victors celebrating and the others licking their wounds.  On a windy and rain swept day, 6 men’s grades and 2 women’s grades did battle for the ultimate prize – the pennant flag!
The grade 1 Men’s match between perennial “bridesmaids” Weston Creek and a determined Belconnen went down to the wire with the result only determined by the last bowl.  With two rinks finished, it was 51 all on the centreboard with one end to play.  Despite being behind by some 12 or so shots, Andrew Ashlin’s rink managed to take two shots to take out the match.  It was a spectators delight!  Final result WC 53-51
In the Grade 1 women between minor premiers Canberra and Canberra City, City took the honours with an 11 shot win.  Each team had good rink wins but the team skipped by Hilary Merritt made the difference, defeating her opponent by 18 shots.Final result:  City 47-36.
Other results:  Grade 2 Men Belconnen 59 defeated Queanbeyan 55; Grade 2 Women’s Yass 43 defeated QRSLM 38; Grade 3 Men Weston Creek 64 defeated QRSLM 38; Grade 4 Weston Creek 79 defeated Yass 33; Grade 5 Queanbeyan 74 defeated Weston Creek 39and in Grade 6 Canberra North 55 defeated QRSLM 40.
