Juniors Dominate Rookies

by admin on July 24, 2016

Three of the four semi finalists in last weekend’s Men’s Rookie Singles were players from our junior ranks. Sean Donnelly from Tuggeranong, the tournament’s youngest competitor, made it through to the semi-finals only to be narrowly beaten by Junior squad-mate Jared Edwards from Bungendore.  In the other semi, Jaidyn Cartledge, a junior player from Tuggeranong, took on Canberra North local defeating him in a tie breaker. Up until this weekend, Mark probably considered himself a youngster!  In the final, Jaidyn vs Jared, Jaidyn showed his greater experience defeating Jared 2 sets to 0.

In the Women’s event, local Canberra North bowler Lyndell Dobbs defeated Yowani’s Sue Cunningham 2- 0.  Lyndell made the final after defeating Belinda Fardell from Canberra 2-0, whereas Sue defeated another Canberra North player, Margaret Bellchambers, by the narrowest margin – 1 shot all up!
Bowls ACT is grateful for the assistance provided by members from the host club Canberra North, and to Tuggeranong Umpire/measurer team Garry and Heather Goodman who persevered in some of the coldest wind Canberra can muster. Thanks also to Bowls ACT President, Bev Dowrick, for marking both finals!
