ACT Singles Champions Crowned
The ACT Singles Championship Finals were played on the weekend in both the Men’s and Women’s disciplines.
On Saturday, Canberra North’s Paul Totterdell repeated the feat he last achieved some 20 years ago by defeating QRSLM’s Dave Cave in a marathon final 25-23. This is the third singles championship win by Paul and the second time Dave has been runner up in the event. Paul defeated Richard Lawson in the QF 25-11 and Andrew Ashlin in the SF 25-9 to make the final whereas Dave defeated Ken Dowrick 26-20 and Robert Craven 25-21 to secure his berth.
On Sunday it was the Women’s turn to shine when City’s Ruth Moore took out back to back championships by defeating Weston Creek’s Sharon Steele 25 -11. To earn her finals berth, Ruth had earlier defeated Nicole Mengel 25-18 whereas Sharon had to defeat a determined Lois Waters 25-20 in her semi final.
