Triples Triumph!
The Men’s and Women’s Triples have been played and won – at Tuggeranong, 21 men’s teams battled the weather to get through the first few rounds leaving only four teams left for the rescheduled finals. Only two clubs were represented by this time – Belconnen and Weston Creek, with each club playing their club mates in the semis. The final was played in glorious weather between the Belconnen team of Hemi Plamer, David Thomas and Adam Jeffery and the Weston Creek team of Ian Whybrow, Todd Trewarne and Mac McLean. All players performed well but in the end, it was the outstanding display of Adam Jeffery that made the difference with the lads from Belconnen coming out on top 31-13.
In the women’s event, played at Canberra North, 24 teams played off in sunny but windy conditions with the final two being the Weston Creek team of Maureen Wilkie, Sharon Steele and Kristen Steele playing the Queanbeyan team of Mandy Stitt, Maggie Johnston and Donna Seddon. After a nail breaking final few ends, Queanbeyan played the end to beat all ends and took out the big pize money (!!) In front of a sizable, if parochial crowd (!), the lead changed a number of times and the ladies from the Creek looked like having it won. But a stellar performance from Queanbeyan Skip, Donna , stole the game! It was the kind of match you always hope from a final. Thanks to umpire Hilary, and to Canberra North for hosting the event.
