2018 Singles Champs
The coveted men’s and women’s singles championships were decided this weekend past. On Saturday at Tuggeranong, Robert Craven (QRSLM) played the match of his life when he defeated the Creek’s newest addition, James Reynolds, formerly from the south coast paradise, Tathra. The final score (26-20) belied the closeness of the match with every end being a tussle through and through. Craven had defeated Mac McLean (WC) earlier that day in the semi, whereas as Reynolds knocked off last years singles C of CC winner Paul Totterdell (CN). Bowls ACT thanks Tuggeranong for hosting the event and supplying markers and umpires for the three weekends involved.
On Sunday over at QRSLM, the women’s Singles final was contestecd by Weston Creek’s Margaret Bacchetto and Canberra’s Lois Waters. It was not to be Waters’s day, however, as Bacchetto took an early lead and kept adding to it. A mid match stalling might have let Waters back into the game but Bacchetto regrouped and went on the seal the match 25-12. The winning of the ACT Singles championships means that Bacchetto has now won all 4 major championships (singles, pairs, triples, fours) (singles, pairs, triples, fours). Again, Bowls ACT is immensely grateful to QRSLM for allowing us to use their glorious greens, and for their help with markers and umpires.
