2021 ACT Singles Finals

by corourke on April 29, 2021

The 2021 ACT Singles were slated to be completed in March of 2021, but significant rains through the back end of the month played havoc with the tournament and Pennants. With the Pennant finals being held in April the Final for both the Men’s and Women’s competitions was delayed.

2021 ACT Women’s Singles Final

Sharon Steele (Weston Creek Women’s Bowling Club) and Lois Waters (Canberra Bowling Club) faced off in the Women’s Final for the ACT Singles on Saturday the 24th of April at Queanbeyan RSLM Bowling Club.

After a rain effected tournament it was fantastic for the final to go ahead with both ladies playing brilliant bowls through the entire day.

Waters started the stronger of the two putting up 7 shots before Steele managed to get on the scoreboard after the 5th end pulling back all four shots on the end before taking the next 4 ends as well to put herself up 8 shots to 7.

Shots went either way through the middle of the match as both finalists showed how they had made it through a strong field in the competition. From the 18th end to the 26th Waters picked up shots across 7 of the 8 ends to put herself out to a 6 shot lead.

Steele put in the good fight looking to pull the shots back however in the end the strong form through the middle of the match proved to be the undoing of Steele with Waters taking out the match 25 – 20 after 34 ends.

Congratulations to Sharon Steele on her performances throughout the tournament and congratulations to Lois Waters on taking out the ACT Women’s Singles for 2021.
