2022 Open Pennants

by corourke on October 5, 2021

Bowls ACT is happy to announce that the 2022 Weekend Pennants will move to Open Gender. The move to Open Pennants reflects a changing attitude across both the Bowls and Australian communities towards equal opportunity for Men and Women as well as the responses gathered from BACT members through the Competition Review Survey conducted earlier this year.

At this stage, the competition, due to start in early 2022, will be played on Sundays with no restrictions or mandates placed on team composition across all grades. Separate male and female Pennant competitions will run later in the year as a midweek competition, running through September, October, and November.

Bowls ACT will be working closely with clubs in gathering nominations for the 2022 Pennant Competition over the coming months. Assistance will be provided to ensure that clubs are able to organise squads and selection whilst building their 2022 Pennant Sides.

We are proud to be taking this step in the organisation’s history and excited by the opportunity the decision holds for members of the bowling community. The sport of Bowls represents an even playing field across genders and Bowls ACT believes that the time is right to take up the opportunity presented by the sport to truly reflect what the Australian community values.

Further information, including the 2022 calendar, will be distributed across the coming months as we gain an understanding of how the easing of restrictions will look across the region, and we set ourselves up to move into 2022 stronger than ever.

Please direct any enquiries through Bowls ACT Executive Officer, Ciaran O’Rourke (exec@bowlsact.org.au).
