North v South Results – 2023

by Bowls ACT on June 7, 2023

Bowls ACT wish to thank all the players for their participation in the 2023 North v South Challenge and for Queanbeyan RSL Memorial Bowling Club for hosting a great day. Players who had nominated for representative duties were selected based on availability and with a view to potential combinations seeing a total of four rinks of men’s players and three rinks of female players available on the day.

While the ‘North’ & ‘South’ designations are now largely arbitrary all players were keen to give their best for their squads, with some great matches played.

In the Womens matches the South squad prevailed in both games, but didn’t always have everything their own way as Mina Bannerman claiming a great rink win for North in the second match and Janette Dunn pushing the Jenny Clout rink all the way in the first game. However with experience, combinations and planning being more important than the results it was great to get the all players together for this initial hit-out.

The Men’s contests were more even, with both North & South claiming the same number of rinks as both squads claimed one win each and the total margin just 8 shots! South claiming the first match three rinks to one, with Matt Sargeant saving the blushes of North with a dominant victory over Flynn O’Shaunessy. The afternoon game saw North turn the tables to claim three rinks in a much more even second match and win the day 118 shots to 110, with Warren Guyers rink for North doing the damage against Nathan Haynes.

The representative training squads will shortly be announced with training sessions to commence after the Australian Open. Bowls ACT thank all members who have made themselves available for the 2023 Representative program
