Meet the Players – Part 3

In the lead-up to The Nationals Bowls ACT will be taking a look at our representative players, with thanks to representative partners Westcoast Bowls

Team Ashlin – Mens Over 60s

This high quality line-up will be ready to take on all comers with a some of the best from both sides of the border!

Phil Crowe is an expert lead and will be well placed to get this team off to a flying start, the Queanbeyan Bowls Club member loves bowls nearly as much as a cup of tea. Crowie continues his distinguished career and will be looking to add to the already bulging trophy cabinet.

Craig Southwell makes his debut with the over 60’s side as second with the Vikings member having claimed a full suite of titles since he started playing in the late 70’s and will be keen to make his mark at this level.

Third Wade Turner will be one to watch here. The current Queanbeyan RSL Major Singles Champion has won all there is to win in the capital region and with his vast representative experience will be again a key member for the ACT in 2023.

‘Muncher’ Andrew Ashlin will skip this impressive rink. The Vikings representative has 10 state titles to his name and will be looking to continue to on his great form from 2022 with Ashlin claiming victories over NSW, QLD & NT.

Team Penny – Over 60’s Men

Four of the regions most capable players combine for glory on the national stage!

Lead Charles Smith will be one to keep a close eye on. One of the ACT’s premier draw bowlers the Canberra member has a steady temperament which will see this team off to a positive start.

David Pruss will play second and provide plenty of positivity with the Vikings member a very active contributor to the sport both on & off the green. Prussy has a heap of club championships to his name and looks ready to take a bigger role at this level.

Goulburn Railways Hayden Ward could be considered one of the newbies, having only start playing bowls in the 90’s, Ward has amassed an impressive resume, with his bio listing a standout moment as being part of the BPL Cup National Finals at Moama in 2021.

Will Penny will play skip and can expect plenty of support from his team and home club Belconnen, where he works as the clubs manager. Penny is an accomplished player at all levels and will be ready to show that he and the ACT can more than match it with the bigger states!
