Meet the Players – Part 4

In the lead-up to The Nationals Bowls ACT will be taking a look at our representative players, with thanks to representative partners Westcoast Bowls – Use CODE BACT23

Team Bannerman – Womens Over 60

Some new faces combine with experienced campaigners to have this ACT side ready to play & win!

First timer Kathy Elliott will play lead and bring some serious skill, having only bowled right-handed for four years due to tennis elbow! The Queanbeyan Bowls Club member has been the ACT Rookie Singles Champion and was featured in an impressive Live Streamed match at the 2023 Australian open against Canadian Kelly McKerihen.

Melda Fowler is the other new member of this squad and will play second. The Canberra Bowling Club member coming off an impressive year winning the ACT Over 60 Fours as well as the Canberra Club Triples. Melda has an infectious smile which will brighten this team as they strive for success.

Lois Waters will be third and has over 25 years experience in the sport, the ex-golfer has become a dominant player with numerous ACT titles alongside skip Mina Bannerman as well as the 2023 Canberra Bowling Club Singles, Pairs & Triples crowns.

Canberra Bowling Club provides three players here with skip Mina Bannerman a tough competitor who has achieved almost everything in her 25 years in the sport, including back-to-back ACT Singles titles and an Australian Open semi-final. Bannerman is one the classiest players in the ACT and will be looking to add to what is already an impressive bowls CV.

Team O’Shaughnessy- Open Men

Four of the regions top guns come together in a youthful and very capable combination.

Weston Creeks Doug Farr will play as a lead here, the strongly built Creeker has plenty of power but also some great touch, seen recently when he was runner up in the 2023 Invitational Singles.

Glenn Morton provides the veteran presence and plenty of experience as a multi-time champion in ACT and club championships at Tuggeranong Vikings Club. Glenn has an important role as second in this team, the regular Vikings skip can play all the shots and will be an important cog in the line-up.

Mac McLean returns to ACT representative duties and will be an asset to the whole squad with his analytical approach. The returned Weston Creek member has all the skills to get the results for this ACT team.

Flynn O’Shaughnessy takes the reins as skip following an impressive 2022 campaign as third to James Reynolds. There are not many better mentors and with Flynn moving into the pathways Jackaroos squad he continues to receive guidance from Australias best coaches. Flynn will be placing high expectations on this team and we will all be cheering them on!
