Bowls ACT Male & Female Player of the Year
Bowls ACT Congratulate all members on a fantastic 2023 season
Re-introduced in 2022 the Bowls ACT Male & Female Bowler of the year are intended to reward the top performers in ACT competitions across the playing season. In a hotly contested season there were a number of players whose performances have stood out who have been selected as finalists.
Female Player of the Year
Finalists: Sharon Steele (Weston Creek), Sue Lalor (QRSLM) & Ruth Moore (QRSLM).
Winner: It went down to the wire, but Sharon Steele claiming the rare treble of ACT Singles, ACT Pairs & CoC Singles in a brilliant season for the Weston Creek representative was enough to tip the scales her way as part of an enormous campaign. For Ruth Moore & Sue Lalor both player have done themselves great credit in the season, Moore & Lalor both ACT Fours & CoC Pairs Champions, while Ruth combined with Jamie Smith to claim the mixed pairs title. All three have shown themselves to be star players and ones to watch in 2024!
Male Player of the Year
Finalists: Matt Sargeant (Belconnen), Harvey McAlister (Queanbeyan) & Jamie Smith (Canberra)
Winner: While both Jamie & Harvey can be very proud of their seasons, it was Matt Sargeant who emerged as the clear winner in 2023 claiming the ACT Singles & Pairs titles & Runner-up in the ACT Fours in another classy campaign from the Belconnen & ACT representative. Jamie can be proud with his efforts all year as semi finalist in the ACT Pairs and winner of the Mixed Pairs with Ruth Moore, while Harvey has progressed from junior star to the open ranks, claiming the ACT Fours and CoC triples along the way and has been recognised with elevation to the Australian Pathways Jackaroos squad.
