2024 ACT Champion of Champions Singles Wrap
Bowls ACT thank all involved in a fantastic weekend showcasing our sport!
Chloe Morrison (Vikings) and Hayden Ward (Goulburn Railway) claim victory at Queanbeyan RSL Memorial Bowling Club to qualify as Bowls ACT representatives for the 2024 Australian Champion of Champion Singles to be held at Club Tweed.
In what looked an almost impossibly strong womens draw Gina Dowley (Norths) made it throguh to the final the hard way, defeating Gayle Young (QBC) and Sandra McDonnell (Crookwell) on Saturday before accounting for the ever dangerous Marg Bacchetto (Yass) in the semi final. In the final though it was Chloe Morrison who showed her class throughout the event giving up just a combined 26 shots across her three matches on her way to a sixth Champion of Champions Singles title, running out a 21/7 winner.
The mens competition saw a number of top competitors bow out on day one with invitational singles champion Garry Charker (CBC) the biggest scalp, falling to an impressive Phil Crowe (QBC) in the second round. Crowe was defeated by eventual winner Hayden Ward following a great semi-final clash with Ward coming back from Crowe holding the match to win 21/20. In the other semi-final Anthony ‘Jimmy’ Maher had the Bungendore fans in raptures as he knocked off 2018 CoC winner Mac McLean (WCBC). The live streamed final was back and forth but Ward finished too strongly and claimed a first CoC Singles title for Goulburn Railway in the ACT competition, running out a 21/13 winner.
