Most events are scheduled for approximately the same dates as they were in 2016.  The following are the most noteworthy changes:
·                We have been informed that the National Senior Sides event is tentatively set for 12-15 September in Darwin, which is a month earlier than 2016.  There has been some minor shuffling of the ACT Women’s Triples to accommodate this shift. Bowls Australia has yet to provide final confirmation of these dates.  If it transpires that the National Senior Sides is held on different dates it is likely that some further adjustments will need to be made to the Bowls ACT Calendar.
·                The Men’s Over 60s Fours has been brought forward to 15-16 August to provide a better lead-up event to the National Senior Sides event.
·                A Women’s Over 60s Fours event has been included for the first time and is scheduled for 30-31 May.  This event will go ahead if there is sufficient support and enough entries to justify it.
·                The Men’s and Women’s Pennant Season has been compressed so that it can be completed before Easter, on 2 April.  The aim here was to avoid the three week break between the Preliminary Finals and the Grand Finals and to finish the competition before the arrival of wintry conditions.  This has been achieved by the inclusion of an extra double-header weekend in mid-February.  Women’s Pennant has tentatively been scheduled for 10 rounds but it should be noted that last year only 7 rounds were required.  If that is the case, some double-headers and/or long weekend rounds may be removed from the Women’s Pennant schedule.
·                Although not shown on the Calendar itself it is proposed that the start time for the Men’s Pennant competition be set at either 0930 or 1000 throughout the season rather than revert to 1230 at the beginning of March.  This has been done in response to repeated requests in recent year to set the one starting time throughout the home and away rounds.
Clubs are invited to comment on the draft Bowls ACT Calendar by responding to the Bowls Office by Monday 21 November.
In particular clubs are asked to comment on the following two proposed changes.
1.              The compressing of the Pennant season by introduction of an extra double-header.
2.              The switch to a starting time of 0930 or 1000 throughout the Men’s Pennant home and away rounds.
CMC is especially interested to know whether these changes are likely to have any impact (positive or negative) on participation rates and general enjoyment of the competition.
Also if any club considers it will be materially affected or disadvantaged by the proposed changed dates or start times please provide a statement of reasons and the extent of the impact, so that we can consider your circumstances.
Clubs are asked to pay particular attention to where we have provisionally scheduled your club events and to confirm (or advise otherwise) these dates.  Please also advise us of additional key events that your club hosts and we will endeavour to fit these into the calendar.
