Graded Reserve Triples claimed by Canberra North
All competitors loved the new format and encourage more teams to get involved!
The first ever ACT Graded Reserve Championships were held over the weekend at Tuggeranong Vikings Bowling Club with 14 teams taking to the green for in the open gender (men, women or mixed) competition with play conducted in a friendly spirit despite all the weather Canberra can offer!
The Vikings hospitality and synthetic green were widely commended by all players with some great games played across the weekend in the shorter format contest (21 ends rather than 25) with a number of games going down to the wire with one and two shot margins common! In the end though it was the Queanbeyan trio of Michelle Malzard, Danny Brighenti & Bruce Williams into the final where they would meet Canberra Norths Judy Bird, Tracey Hughes and Lyn Grigg.
The final was a see-sawing encounter and with live scoring to BowlsLink being provided thanks to Nathan Savino members were able to keep up-to-date with results from across Canberra and across the world, with one QBC supporter following along from Utah, USA. The Norths team got away well, picking up the first two ends before an early 5 secured a strong early lead. The Queanbeyan team were not disheartened, chipping away to even the game at eight, nine and thirteen shots all and had bowls to secure the win on the 21st and final end, but some great pressure bowls from Lyn Grigg did enough, Norths winning four of the last six ends to secure the maiden Graded Reserve title 18/15.
All clubs and members are encouraged to enter sides for the 2024 Graded Reserve Championships, with the Graded Reserve Fours to be held at Belconnen Bowling Club February 3/4 (and 10 if required)
